Welcome to Social Sciences

Social sciences covers a broad range of subjects, it can be seen as a discipline which in its broadest sense is the study of society, human behaviour and the influence of the world around us. We teach three social science subjects at Outwood Grange: Psychology; Sociology and Business Studies. Psychology studies the human mind and its functions. Psychologists are particularly interested in how we experience the world through our emotions, ideas and conscious states. Sociology tends to focus on groups rather than individuals. Sociologists seek to understand how society works, how people relate to each other and the role of both formal and informal institutions. Finally, in Business Studies we look at how to set up and grow your own business, the different functions within a business and how to manage staff, resources and finance to meet a range of business objectives including social enterprises.
