At Outwood Grange Academy, all students have the opportunity to study a language and increase their employability for the future. Studying a language helps students to develop their communication skills, independence, logic and resilience, all of which are highly-desired by colleges, universities and employers. As well as learning how to communicate in either French, Spanish or German, students at Outwood Grange get the chance to learn about the customs and communities in Francophone, Hispanic and German-speaking countries from all around the world.
The Modern Foreign Language course at Key Stage 3 provides students with the necessary skills and knowledge to access the GCSE course in Key Stage 4. Students study French, German or Spanish for two hours per week in Year 7 and 8. They learn to understand and communicate at a basic level in the foreign language through a wide variety of different activities. Our 3 Foreign Language Assistants from France, Germany and Spain support every class on a rotational basis during the course of the year. They work with small groups to help students gain confidence in conversing with a native speaker.
All of our students have their own Vocab Express account to support their vocabulary learning at home.
There is also an opportunity for students to join one of our trips to France, Germany or Spain in the summer months.
