2011 results summary

KS4 – GCSE Physical Education: 78% (A – C)
  Btec Level 2: 99.4% gained a Distinction* - Pass.
  Btec Level 2: 26.7% gained Distinction*
or Distinction


KS5 – Year 12 AS Level: 100% A-E grades.
           Year 13 A2 Level:  57% - A-B and 86% - A-C
 
          
         Year 12 Btec Level 3: 100% pass
50% of the group gained either a distinction or 
distinction *
Year 13 Btec Level 3: 100% pass and 75.8% gained double distinction or distinction / merit.

Courses Available

KS3- At key stage 3 we offer students a broad and balanced curriculum aimed at enhancing students underpinning skills and qualities of the PE national curriculum.

KS4 - At key stage 4 all students study a BTEC Sport Certificate qualification (2 GCSEs).  Alongside this, students can opt for a BTEC Sport Diploma (4 GCSEs) and a GCSE in Physical Education.  Supporting all these courses are enrichment courses in Health and Fitness, Skills and tactics and Sport Leaders. 

KS5 - At Key Stage 5 students can opt for A level Physical Education or a BTEC National Diploma in Sport award.  Students can also enrol on a Community Sports Leader Award (CSLA) in Year 12 followed by a Higher Sports Leader Award (HSLA) in Year 13.

Structure of the timetable across the key stages

KS3- 2 Hours practical Physical Education.

KS4 – Year 9/10/11 - 2 lessons. Practical and theoretical Physical education.

KS5 - AS level Physical Education, followed by A2both these options provide 5 hours of curriculum learning time.

BTEC Level 3 SubsidiaryDiploma, followed by Diploma in Sport both these options provide 10 hours of curriculum learning time.

Furthermore students wanting additional qualifications in Sport or Coaching can also enrol on a Community Sports Leader Award (CSLA) in Year 12 followed by a Higher Sports Leader Award (HSLA) in Year 13.

The ethos is of maximum participation enabling all to achieve their potential.
 
After Academy hours the department continues to excel with numerous sports clubs including various activities and age groups. The department puts equal emphasis of the participation and promotion of active lifestyles alongside its many successes in sporting competitions.
