Geography Work for students away from the Academy
The following pieces of work can be completed by students who study
Geography while the Academy is closed due to the bad weather.
See the
information or click
on the links below that apply to you.
Year 7 - Choose one country you have heard about
this term in Geography (it could be from your Passport to the World
homework or class work) and make a Geographical factfile about it
e.g. where it is in the world, what countries
surround it, what oceans it borders, ths size of its population. What
is its natural environment like? Does it have any mountain ranges or
large rivers? Does it have any unique wildlife? You can complete your
factfile with any Geographical information
you can find and in any format. Please make sure it is neat and well
presented.
Year 8 - the next ecosystem we are going onto study are
Coral Reefs. Do some research to find out as much as you can
about coral reefs e.g. where they are found globally, what are
coral reefs? What living and non living things
make up the ecosystem (plants, fish etc), what conditions do coral
reefs need in order to survive? Are Coral reefs under threat? Why? How
can they be protected? Present your research in any format. Please
make sure it is neat and well presented.
GCSE Geography - We are studying the Natural Hazard of
Drought.
Research the different methods that can be used to manage the hazard in
both MEDCs and LEDCs. Your case studies are Spain and The
Sahel region of Africa. You could find out how these regions manage
drought. Try to find out a variety of examples
both 'hi tech' and 'low tech'. Bring your research to your next
lesson.
AS - Mrs Parish - You should be revising, you have a
test before Christmas. Make sure you learn your key work
definitions, factors affecting population change, population structure,
the balance between population and resources.
You must focus on the exam technique that we have been working on - use
the exam questions you have answered this term. Practise them again by
re writing the answers to improve them, remember to refer to the mark
shcemes you have to guide you.
A2 - Mrs Parish - Work your way through the items in the
Advanced Information Booklet.
1. We are moving on to study Item 2 in class.
Read this carefully and follow it up with research about the regenation
projects in Belfast e.g. use the websites given in the booklet to
study Laganside and Victoria Square.
Familiarise yourself with the variety of projects that were established
there and consider how successful they have been. What
evidence can you find to support your argument about
their success ror failure?
2. Answer this exam question:
' Study the information provided in Item 1 of the Advanced Information
Booklet. a) Describe and explain the
impact that manufacturing decline might have had upon the city of
