The typical day contains 5 hours of lessons, a 15 minute mentor session/assembly, a 15 minute morning break and a 30 minute lunch break. Period 1 starts at 8.30am and period 5 finishes at 2.30pm
Subject Immersion Days
The timetable for all year groups is collapsed on 5 Wednesdays throughout the year in order for students to gain a different shape and depth of experience. Students have a whole day when they would usually only have one hour in that lesson. This enables teachers to be more creative. Last year we were able to take students on trips, complete day projects, hold revision sessions and much more. The feedback from students has been positive towards this style of learning.
Creative Curriculum
The programme of study for students in KS4 option subjects runs from September to the end of June. During the month of July, students in Year 10 follow the Creative Curriculum on their option days. The Creative Curriculum is a combination of full day and half day enrichment workshops, facilitated by different subjects. These workshops last year ranged from financial awareness to studying the basics of martial arts. Running along-side this, students in Year 9 immerse themselves in a combination of RS and BTEC Sport.
Deep Learning Days
When leaving school, as well as students having the knowledge to achieve outstanding results, we would like students to have the skills to be life-long learners. Deep Learning Days introduce and build upon the skills we think are needed in order to establish a culture of Deep Learning within the Academy that can be transferred into future careers.
