Courses Available
KS4
AQA Food Technology, Graphic Products and Textiles Technology the courses are 60% coursework 40% final exam. WJEC Food and Nutrition students complete two projects, a minor project worth 20% and major project worth 40% the exam will be sat at the end of Y10, which is worth 40%. WJEC Product Design, students work with a wide range of materials completing a coursework project worth 60% the exam is sat at the end of Y10 and is worth 40%.
KS5
ED-Excel product design students work as a product designer in Industry producing prototype products. Coursework is worth 50% Exam is worth 50%. AQA Art and Design Textiles 100% coursework.
Structure of the timetable across the key stages
KS3
Two 1 hour lessons per week – Students study product design all year. Food and Textiles – On a half a year rotation.
KS4
Year 9 2 lessons - 1 hour lessons
Year 10 3 lesson - 1 double 1 single
Year 11 3 lessons 1 double 1 single
KS5
Other Information
Within the department we have a dedicated ICT suite of 30 PC’s, A graphics suite of 20 PC’s and a CAD/CAM suite.
We regularly take part in local and national competitions and have had much success with these entries. We are a fast paced, forward thinking and highly committed department always wanting to build on new technologies and maximise the experience students have in our subject.
