BTEC  LEVEL 2 Extended Certificate

BTEC Extended certificate is a vocational course covering Acting Skills. Throughout this course you will participate and demonstrate your ability in devised and scripted performances. You will develop your vocal and physical skills as a performer, utilise a range of rehearsal techniques, skills and styles and evaluate your progress throughout.
This course can run alongside GCSE Drama or as a stepping stone onto BTEC Level 3.

GCSE

GCSE Drama enables you to develop your understanding and appreciation of Theatre and performance. It incorporates three units that focus on Responding to Stimulus, Responding to Script and Live Performance and Performing piece of Drama or Performance support (Technical Theatre/Design).
This course requires you to watch and evaluate at least one piece of live theatre and opportunities to do so will be provided by the Academy.
This is an excellent preparation for A-Level Drama and Theatre Studies or BTEC Level 3 Performing Arts.

KS5

BTEC Level 3 Award -  Acting

This is a one year vocational course covering the Principles of Acting, Devised Theatre and Classical Theatre. This course will give you a comprehensive understanding of some of the origins of Theatre ad an experience of developing and performing Classical roles. You will also study a wealth of influential practitioners (standard and contemporary) and participate in the creation of exciting original drama. In addition to this, you will refine your skills as a performer.
There is the opportunity to take the units for this course forward onto the BTEC Subsidiary Diploma Acting – which is excellent preparation for career pathways within the Performing Arts industry.

BTEC Subsidiary Diploma - Acting

Following on from the Award, this course will develop your skills in Contemporary Scripted Performance, Acting Styles and Audition Techniques. This experience is invaluable to anyone wishing to pursue a career in the Performing Arts industry as it equips you with a broad subject knowledge and confidence as a stand-alone performer.
This qualification is regarded highly across many institutions and workplaces as it helps to ensure enhanced communication and collaboration skills.

AS Drama and Theatre Studies

This course is a study of scripted and live Theatre. In completing each unit you will explore two plays in workshop conditions, perform an extract from a script, perform a monologue, evaluate a piece of live theatre and analyse your developing understanding of character, script and eight elements of Drama in a detailed written document. This course is the natural foundation for A2 Drama and Theatre Studies.

A2 Drama and Theatre Studies

This course covers the complex and holistic study of a prescribed play from the perspective of a director, designer and performer. You will also learn about the original context of at least one play and make informed comparisons between its original performance conditions and a contemporary interpretation; evaluating the impact of the contemporary performance on a 21st century audience.  The performance/performance support aspect of this course is considerably smaller than that of the other Drama qualifications but knowledge and skill are of vital importance in the realisation of a devised piece of Drama – this is supplemented by a very detailed supporting written evidence document.

As with the BTEC, this course lends itself to progression within the Performing Arts Industry as well as careers and courses with no obvious links because of the wide variety of essential, transferable skills.
