Biology Work

The following work is for Biology students for the classes/teachers mentioned below:
 
9Y1, Y2, 9X1, 9X2, 9X3

They can research Alexander Fleming and penicillin, producing either a PowerPoint or essay containing: what he did, when he did it , how he discovered penicillin and what its uses are.
If students don't have access to the internet then they could produce a detailed concept map on everything they can remember about the immune system, pathogens, disease, defence mechanisms, medicines etc.
 
Students may also use their hwk books to make revision cards on Nervous System/Hormones.
 
10A1, 10A2, 10B1, 10B2

Begin to produce revision cards on the following topics, using Hwk Book/revision guide to help you:
  • Cells
  • Movement in & out of cells
  • photosynthesis
  • Food chains and cycles
  • Digestive enzymes and their function
  • Getting energy from food (respiration)
  • Answer/research the following Q's:

1. Why do we need oxygen?

2. Name the waste gas we breathe out.

3. What is 'urea' and how do we get rid of it?

4. How do we maintain body temperature?

 

Use www.bbc.co.uk/schools/gcsebitesize/science/aqa/ and then follow the links for biology and mock exams.

 

11Y1, 11X1, 11Y2, 11X2, 11X3

Begin to produce revision cards on the following topics(using Hwk books and revision guides as an aid):

  • How useful things are absorbed-active tranport/diffusion and specic examples
  • Blood and circulation
  • Exercising your body
  • Kidneys and what could go wrong and pros/cons of treatment
  • Respiration

If you are completeing the exam early, make sure you extend to further topics on:

  • Microorganisms
  • Biotecnology
  • Biofuels

12D & 12C

Teacher 1 (you see 2 hours per week)

Notes on the final section 'Vaccination', pgs 112-115 making sure that they cover all of the Learning Objectives on page 112.

Then the unit 1 practice questions on pages 118-119, questions 1, 3, 4 and 5.

If they don't have a copy of the book then they can still do notes on vaccination. I asked them all to take down the AQA website address which takes them to the course specification so they can find what they need to include.

 

Teacher 2 (you see 3 hours per week)

Produce revision cards/notes on:

  • Enzymes
  • Digestion
  • Biological molecules
  • Lungs
  • Lung disease
  • Heart structure

Make notes on Atheroma, Thrombosis, Aneurysm, Myocardial infarction and risks on p94-96 and answer summary Q's p96 and  all application Q's p 97.
